Motivation and Mindset

How can we stay motivated every day to keep pushing and working towards our goals?

First, and most importantly, is to pick goals that are truly important to you. No matter what it is you are hoping to accomplish, success will require time and hard work. If what you are working towards is not important to you, it is so much easier to make excuses for not putting in the work. If you don't care, you won't succeed. Without meaning, it is hard to find motivation.

Once you know what you are working towards, find a way to build momentum. Set yourself up for success. Even though your ultimate goal may still be a year away, ask yourself what you can do today to take a step in the right direction. Set daily goals that are within your reach, and build on the momentum of each successful day. When you are able to create that momentum, you create confidence. And confidence is a very powerful motivator!

Now, no matter how motivated you are or how much planning you do, there will be days when that energy and fire just isn't there. Days when getting out of bed seems like it might be just a little bit too much work. And those are the days that you can gain real momentum and come back stronger and more motivated than ever. You have to get up, get to work, and change your mindset. Build trust and belief in yourself. When you can push through the hard days, everything else becomes that much easier.

So how do you really change your mindset? You just have to believe in yourself. That's it. Just believe in and be proud of yourself. Be proud of your accomplishments. If you fail, be proud of your effort. Do not punish yourself. Be patient and trust in you. And never, ever base your success, or self-worth, on someone else's expectations. If you can do that, the world will truly open up before you, and the sky will be the limit.

Now, there are many ways to create and strengthen belief in yourself. While setting goals and working hard to achieve them are important in building that belief, it is just as important to find people and activities that bring purpose and excitement into your life. Make time each day to spend time with someone, or do something, that you love. Do things you are proud of. Spend time with people who make you want to be better.

For me, my volunteer work with the Disciples 4 Christ prison ministry helps push me every day to be a better and stronger person. It gives me so much joy to be able to share my story and my time, and see the impact it has on another person's life. And that joy is pure motivation. Motivation to do more and be more. Motivation to love more, and share more, and give more. Motivation to reach any goal I set my mind to.

I encourage you to find your joy. To do as many things as you can to fill your heart. To find the things that make all the goals and hard work and struggles worth it. I encourage you to laugh and smile and have fun. To live your life fully. When you combine those things with the confidence of working towards your goals, you will find that your motivation is higher and more powerful than ever before.

Now I know it is not always easy. There will be times when you fail. The important thing to remember is that it is okay. It is okay to fail. It is okay to be human. Change your mindset. Be proud of those flaws. Be proud of your effort and not just the end result. If you let failure define and discourage you, then you are defeated before you can even start. I pray that you always get back up. I pray you give everything you have, every day, to be the best possible you. I pray you believe in yourself, the way I believe in you.
